Weekly update 28/6 - Bobby Hutton, Bjarne Rostvold , Can, Independent Movement, King James Version, Lee Hazlewood, New York Bass Violin Choir and more...

Record Mania Stockholm being a bit understaffed today and slightly stunned after another week of 28 degrees in our store, so if you want something interesting and/or funny to read you'd better check back another time!
If you think it's too cold outside, drop by and drop a sweat or see the portable AC unit work it's way to an early retirement (poor thing).

We do have some nice records going up for sale this week though, probably strongest in the soul/funk section, but not without treats for our jazz customers and some classic rock titles - and last but not least we keep the hip-hop coming so keep an eye out!

There's also a couple of new releases and re-stocks that recently arrived. Joacim Nyberg of Correction dropped off a new interesting free jazz LP featuring Mats Gustafsson. A package from France landed with a batch of the Grim Reaperz new EP Blood-Leg Vol. 2 - a sure shot if you like classic hip-hop with heavy beats and the verse-scratch hook-verse-repeat formula! Both of these are limited pressings of 500 copies.
180 Proof's reissue of Time by Larry Nozero is also here at last, and we don't expect them to be around for too long. The Awesome Tapes from Africa release by Dur-Dur Band went fast last time, but we've secured a bunch of new copies. We're down to the last few of the amazing Good God - Apocryphal Hymns by Numero Group. Last but not least - if you don't have it already, no home should be without a copy of Heart of the Congos!

Or in our newsletter, if you don't already subscribe to it. If you miss out on something you really wanted, remember to add it to your automated want-list. That way you'll get a heads-up the next time we have it in stock.

And take a look at a couple of the more exclusive records below:

Rare Dee Irvin-produced LP with plenty of soul greatness.

Beautifully made Japanese reissue of superb Danish jazz rarity.

Mind-bending psych kraut classic, with "Mushroom" and "Hallelujah".

Great Bartz-LP with the wonderful "Love tones".

Obscure indie soul/boogie album from 1988, only released in plain sleeve.

Plenty of funky breaks on this jazz dance instruction LP on the collectible Hoctor-label.

Strong album with the killer bossa jazz tune "Naquela base".

Obscure looking funk LP with several pieces of interest.

Weekly update 20/6 - Marva Broome, Chain Reaction, Don Blackman, Geza Vegh, Harvester, Impossibles and more...

A shorter week than usual for us here at Record Mania due to Midsummer's Eve on Friday being what's probably the most closed holiday in Sweden. We try to disregard as many holidays as possible, but on Midsummer's Eve we would probably just have one customer come to the store (you know who you are!).
So this weekly update comes one day early, and even though we've had one day less to spice up the weekly additions I think we've managed to make something good out of this week anyway.

A bunch of new interesting releases has shown up recently, like the Michael Boothman 12" and a re-stock of  the massive (both musically and literally) Soundway Kenya Special compilation. A new supply of Numero Group's Good God - Apocryphal Hymns compilation also came in, and the fresh sounding and very limited Jonas Kullhammar records A Love Supreme and Svenska Kaputt are almost completely sold out. Numero's fascinating reissue of loner gospel opus by Otis G Johnson is also soon to be gone, so don't miss out!

Also just in is Analog Africa's Orchestre Poly-Rythmo De Cotonou - Volume 3 - The Skeletal Essences Of Afro Funk 1969-1980 and the previously unreleased soundtrack to filthy Swedish 70's movie Vill Så Gärna Tro with music by Johnny Nash, Bob Marley and Anthony "Reebop", complete with interesting liner notes and photos of where Marley supposedly lived for 9 months (a dirty boiler room in a Bromma basement). Short summary of the movie: Flight attendant falls in love with her jazz ballet teacher. He gets drafted into the army.

Great soul album only released in Europe and Canada.

With the wonderful "Thaba nchu", great track with a spiritual edge.

Much wanted 80's soul LP with the fantastic "Since you've been away so long" and "Holding you, loving you".

Such a great 60's soul album, solid LP but don't miss "I gotta keep my bluff in" and the title track.

Superb soulful reggae with "Lonely man" and "Peace in the garden".

Very rare Swedish percussion/drum EP that we've never had before. Looks just as cool as his LP, and at least as collectible.

Only LP by this post International Harvester, pre Träd, Gräs & Stenar group with a dark, hypnotic groove.

Surprisingly rare UK vocal jazz LP that's hip with the mod crowd. Should appeal to fans of Oscar Brown Jr.

It's been a long time since we had this LP by Thai funk group who toured and recorded this in Sweden.

Superb Lee Perry-produced afro-inspired reggae. Heavy Black Ark sound!

Outstanding Kenyan funk in "Gimme something love".

Weekly update 14/6 - Lee Moses, Caesar Frazier, Waltz for Debby, The Nonce, Sherlock, Nilo Toledo and more...

It's been a hot, rainy and damp week here at Record Mania Stockholm. I don't know how and if that reflects upon the records coming out today, but our customers seem to think our new opening hours are good enough to disregard the climate and come for a quick dig/visit.
The Soul Weekender party that took place at the Lighthouse this weekend was an equally hot success, and we sure hope it will have an even better second time, third time, and so on! A big thank you to the DJ's and soul music aficionados who flew in from all over Europe to be a part of this historical event.

This Friday we have quite a strong update, with a good supply of Hip-Hop (both Swedish stuff like Looptroop, Timbuktu, Sherlock and other popular acts as well as US stuff like Beatnuts, Dudley Perkins and Nonce), some more Jazz and Free Jazz plus some nice Soul and Funk classics.

Weekly update 7/6 - Expanded store hours + Johnny Griffin, Bob Hund, Teruo Nakamura, Clifford Thornton, Sun Palace...

Another week, another update - to settle things after our free jazz special last Friday, this week's additions might appeal the most to fans of Soul and Jazz. The great "Doin' it right" LP by Mike James Kirkland and Frankie Gearing's "Just Frankie" are two of the soulful highlights. Johnny Griffin's "Lady heavy bottom's waltz" and Guido Manusardi "Blue train" are two of the heavier Jazz titles, and a copy of the very rare self-titled release by Swedish group Bob Hund is probably the most unusual sight in our stock! But for now, enough about the records:

Expanded Store Hours (starting 10/6)

Monday-Friday: 12-18
Saturday: 12-16

Possibly the biggest news this week, is something that mainly affects our store customers (in a good way!). For the first time in many years we've decided to open our doors to customers on Mondays and Tuesdays. If that wasn't enough, we're even changing the 3 in "13" to a 2 which turns it into "12"!
We hope this makes it easier for everyone, and adds to your convenience. These new hours go in full effect from Monday 10/6. For all of our online customers who doesn't frequent our store but might be planning a trip to Stockholm this summer, we will not be closing for vacation. So while your kids are hypnotized by the Lynx-feeding at Skansen or stuck in the Eclipse at Gröna Lund, you are just a 10-minute boat trip and a 5-minute walk away from crates of cheapies and well-organized shelves filled with great music!
